With his memorable characters and quirky humor German comic artist Joscha Sauer has created a whole universe of funny absurdities which come to life in his animated series NICHTLUSTIG - DIE SERIE - available on streaming services.
The rough animation of this six episode mini series was done in TVPaint and then cleaned up in Toonboom. This gives the series the extra quality of traditional animation and its slapsticky humor is a rare find on the German animation market.

Working on this series was a blast, the team was great and the outcome was bigger and better than all of us expected. The gamble of going the long route via traditionally 2D-animated characters and effects clearly shows and pays off. Gone is the vectory, overclean look that you often get when using Toonboom and you get a quality somewhere between a fancy TV series or a short for cinema.
Also, doing something for 2D animation and German humor at the same time was a very rare but welcome breath of fresh air.
